Freelance Writer Seeking Jobs?

I am a beginning freelance writer who has just started getting jobs. I wanted to see if any of you out there had knowledge of organizations, websites, etc. where I could advertise at no charge for my services? I can’t really afford to advertise yet but I am an award winning writer and poet. If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
I am 43 years old with a degree in Liberal Arts. I have written short stories, am currently working on a novel and have won awards in poetry. Yet, it is hard to get a start in writing so I decided to freelance it. I was the Editor of my High School newspaper, wrote for my college magazine and have won several prizes in short story competitions. But I would like to ultimately have a business as a freelancer that is at least slightly lucrative. I write fiction, non-fiction, articles and poetry. I just finished a freelance series on time managment for a Canadian magazine. Also, I am a Certified Paralegal with extensive proofing experience (line by line). I used to work for Texaco’s legal division writing and proofing legal contracts for the drilling of oil and gas. Additionally, I have written standard procedure for several organizations including a bank and a CPA firm.
Where can I find freelance writing jobs that pay excellent money?

Is there a specific site online where I can find freelance writing jobs that pay excellent money?I would like to work from home as im a mother and have kids and am looking for something I can do partime or full time
What types of writing careers are there, and which is the highest paying?

I am thinking about becoming a writer. I am curious to which career or careers in writing have the highest salary, and what some job titles of writers are. Please include all types of writers. (Newspapers, magazines, books, internet, etc.)
Proofreading job opportunities online?

First off, I’m just a high schooler, but due to, ah…issues…I need work that I can do from home. Is it possible for someone still in high school to get a proofreading job online? If so, could you please inform me how, where, et cetera…?
Is it actually possible to make a living as a “career writer”?

It is my dream to work as a writer, as my sole livelihood. The web seems to be full of “be a writer” things, but I fail to see how any of these could possibly result in a lucrative contract with proper compensation I could live on.
Does anyone know how to go about “getting hired” as a writer, if you will excuse the naive notion?
How is it done, and where do I go knocking?
Is it possible to make a living as a full time freelance writer?

My dream has always been to write. I am currently an English major and write regularly. My husband and I decided that if I could make $30,000 or more in one year freelancing part time around my full time job, part time school and family, that I would leave my crappy job and freelance full time. Is this possible?
Why can’t some employers and clients proofread the job postings that they write before posting it online ?

Everytime I see a job posting with typo and grammatical errors while searching for a job, I always get the feeling that the employer or client who posted it is unprofessional and that he or she seems fraudulent. In other words, it can make it difficult for one to land a decent job and/or do business.
Overall, does anyone always think that if a job posting is riddled with typo and grammatical errors looks suspicious sometimes, even with the slightest errors? I know I do.
Are there any online writing jobs I can apply for?

If there are, could you please direct me to them?
Thank you.
As to Rick B: Yes, companies will pay you to, “sit at home and type.” I have even applied for one. IVJR tech is looking for a blogger, and someone to help write a fifty page report on a tech subject.
What to charge for proofreading med-size CA weekly newspaper?

Hi!
I currently work as a part-time proofreader for a magazine publishing company, where I work out of their office and make X amount per hour.
However, I just got an offer from a community newspaper group to proofread one of their weeklies. (I used to work for this group years ago). The paper usually runs 40, 44 or 48 pages a week. Much of that is advertising; I’d only proof editorial content. The publisher wants to know how much I’d charge to be a freelance proofreader (I’d do it from home, since the magazine office proofreading job is only part-time).
I HAVE NO IDEA what to charge the newspaper!! *blush* Obviously it wouldn’t be an hourly rate, since when one works from home, one rarely works “straight thru” for a long period. At least I don’t! I work better with frequent, small breaks. So I guess I should charge a flat rate per issue? If so, what’s a good a “ballpark figure” to ask? This is in California, BTW, where the cost of living is higher than most places.
Thanks!
P.S. I hold a bachelor’s degree in journalism and have more than 10 years of experience as a writer and/or editor for various newspapers and magazines (if that helps you help me figure out “what I’m worth”.)
Candelightsup — sorry, but I need to make a friendly correction “just for the record” (journalist-speak *grin*) in case someone who knows me professionally reads this.
I did not say that I worked for the company in question 10 years ago. I said that I have worked in the field of JOURNALISM for 10+ years, but that is a combination of experience at quite a few different newspapers and magazines.
Where can I find legitmate freelance writing jobs?

I recently became a stay at home mother, and I am looking to take on some freelance work. I have a great deal of experience as a copywriter, and as a marketer as that is what I have been doing for 10 years. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there any legitimate writing jobs that can be done from home to earn a little extra money.
